While some folks wear a glove, or put tape or "mole skin" on their fingers, I find this is not necessary. Try this technique: Do not slide off the end of the blade with your finger- this is uncomfortable and produces a metallic sound. Rather, start the "pluck" with the pad of your finger about 1/2 way down the blade and come off the blade before your finger reaches the end.
